These four collages from Eva Koťátková (b. 1982) are part of a bigger project named Unlearning the Body - a large assembly of related objects exhibited in various contexts. Koťátková’s work frequently examines the role of the individual in the social system and his or her personal environment of daily interaction. Her diverse imagery is drawn from historical as well as contemporary culture, and visually, the works refer to political collages from the beginning of the 20th century. The use of historical materials and visual archeology to approach ideological or institutional arrangements is a high interest in Koťátková’s work. Through her projects, she reflects the institutional background of given topics in order to disarticulate them and to visually present them with a new level of critique.
