Josephine Pryde’s work is profoundly concerned with the very nature of image-making itself without losing its playfulness. Photography could be her primary medium, but she also works with writing, sculpture and installation. In 2016, Pryde (b. 1967) was nominated for the Turner Prize, and her train that moved throughout the gallery taking visitors from place to place became the most iconic work for that year's finalist presentations. Some of the artist's photographs are concerned with the surface and the materiality of certain fabrics. They look beautiful and almost haute couture-like. Even though they may seem to be mere abstractions or to look like fashion advertisement images, Pryde usually questions relevant historical or social topics.
