What to buy in Prague, Czech design worth taking home

The best Prague souvenirs rarely have 'Prague' printed across them. Czech design has deep traditions in glass and porcelain and a lively contemporary scene in jewellery, illustration, product design and fashion.

Bohemian glass is the obvious place to begin, but look for contemporary makers rather than anonymous crystal. Porcelain ranges from restrained tableware to playful studio pieces. Jewellery, prints and beautifully made stationery are easier to pack and often tell a more personal story.

CZECHDESIGN Shop is a useful first stop because it brings many local designers together under one roof. Museum and gallery shops — including Kunsthalle Praha — are also good places to find books, editions and smaller objects by Czech makers.
