Josef Lada was a Czech painter, writer, and illustrator. He is best known for his tranquil landscape scenes. As an illustrator, he gave the form to Good Soldier Svejk, and he illustrated over 200 books intended for children or adults. As a writer he is best known for his book about a little black tomcat who can talk – Mikeš.
