Tania Nikulina was born in Irkutsk, Russia but studied art in Prague in a sculpture studio. She keeps evolving the “sculpture” tradition in the sense of Joseph Boys for whom sculpture can be almost anything. Nikulina creates objects from fabric, some waste, cheap materials and plastic. Her objects are later moved by actors or they move by themselves in her short video essays. Nikulina also prepares all costumes for her videos and collaborates on choreography. Sometimes a very fine border appears between the notions of “who wears what” – if the actors wear the costume-objects or the objects wear the actors. Nikulina keeps working with those two mediums in her exhibition where performance, video and artist-created soft objects are presented.
